Maddie's Sail Loft of Marblehead Reviews

Great everything. True locals place. Great food and ambience. Head upstairs for the restaurant. Downstairs is the bar.

Loved Maddie's! And not just cause it's one of the few restaurants in Marblehead, but they had strong drinks and good service. Vibes are darker, but you feel like you're in an old boating ship which is fun. Burger and salads are yum!

Great local place! Food is excellent and affordable. Plan a laid back experience. Love this place

Got the fish and chips on Sunday for lunch. Let me tell you it was absolutely stellar. For only $17 with fries and a salad was a nice touch. Maddies has very good food and if you're also looking for a late night spot for drinks this is definitely this place. I've been many times for drinks and always have a good time with my blokes.

My wife and I visited Maddie's while visiting Marblehead. We like to find places off the beaten path where locals folks go. We were not disappointed! The clam chowder is house made as is the quesadilla and they were excellent! My wife had the chicken Madeira and I had the pan fried haddock. So good! The service was great and the atmosphere is relaxed. It is a small, local pub. Probably good to get there early like we did. We will definitely come again.

Definitely a hidden gem. Decided to come here to get away from the crowd in Salem due to an event they had going on. Plus, it was raining so I didn't want to deal with the traffic and long waits at restaurants. Found this place about 15-20 minutes away. The restaurant is hidden in a neighborhood and easily missed if you don't have your gps on. There's a parking lot in the back. I ended up parking on the streets because I didn't know they had a parking lot. Walking in, you get hit with a dark, locals only bar. It's really small inside, but we got lucky when someone was leaving when we came inside. The bathrooms are closet sized. Not great if you are claustrophobic. I have to say that I am super impressed with the food here. Not only is it great on your wallet, but it actually taste good. I ordered the clam chowder and fish and chips. The chowder wasn't overly thick, but not watery either. You can taste the bacon flavor and big pieces of clams. The fish and chips is nice and crispy and reminds me of something you would get in London. The fries has a nice crunch to it and it was pretty good flavorwise. The wife got the lobster risotto with scallops. For the price they charge, they give you 6 big scallops. Normally you pay that amount just for the risotto. The risotto though, was just ok. I do have to give props to our server. She was a machine. She tends the bar, takes food orders and cleans up the tables. The place was full and there was no lapse in service whatsoever. If I lived in the area, I would definitely come back here for sure.

So this place is interesting. Maddie's was highly recommended by my innkeeper so we definitely had to check it out. The place was a lot smaller, dingier, and darker than I imagined it would be. The bartender was friendly but slow to take our order and bring our check at times, BUT... the food was delicious! Y'all... the food looked good and was good! You can tell this is a place the locals go and I've been searching for a local go-to spot that wasn't a tourist trap. As long as you manage your expectations, this is a good spot!

Definitely stumbled onto a gem here! Just looking for a place that was open late with cheap, good food and Maddie's delivered on all three. We walked in two minutes before the kitchen closed but they graciously took our order and it was out, piping hot, in just a few minutes. Everything -- clam chowder, lobster rolls and onion rings -- was great but the fries really stood out! Super crispy on the outside and still incredibly fluffy on the inside. It wasn't super busy on a Monday night but the bar was pretty full, still the bartender found time to refill our drinks whenever she noticed they were empty. It can get loud, but it's a bar/tavern so that's exactly what you should expect!
